A level Results Day 2025 is approaching, with grades to be released on August 14th.
After all your hard work, receiving A-Level results that fall short of your expectations can be really tough. Whether you didn’t meet the grades for university or failed one or more subjects, feeling overwhelmed is totally natural.
But here’s the positive news: there are still many options available, and with a solid plan, you can absolutely turn things around.
So instead of dwelling on what went wrong, let’s focus on your next steps and how to move forward with confidence!
Step 1: Log In to UCAS Track to Review Your A-Level Results Status
Once you’ve received your A-Level results, the first thing you should do is log in to UCAS Track. Even if you didn’t quite meet the conditions of your offer, there’s still a chance you’ve been accepted—especially if you were only a few marks short. Some universities may also offer you a spot on a related course that better matches your results.
If UCAS Track shows your application was unsuccessful due to your grades, don’t panic. Accept the outcome and start exploring your next steps.
One great option is Clearing, where universities list available courses and actively seek students to fill them (we’ll dive into that soon!).
If your UCAS Track hasn’t updated yet, stay calm. Your university might still be reviewing decisions. In this case, it’s perfectly okay to contact the admissions office for an update—but keep in mind that each university has its own timeline for processing applications.
2- Secure a University Place in 2025 with UCAS Clearing
If your A-Level results didn’t go as expected, UCAS Clearing is one of the best ways to still secure a spot at university in 2025. It allows you to apply for courses that still have vacancies after the main application period ends.
While you might need to consider a different course or a university you hadn’t initially planned for, Clearing offers a fantastic opportunity if you're determined to start university this year.
To begin, use the UCAS Clearing search tool to explore available courses. Once you find options that interest you, reach out to the universities directly to inquire about the course and see if they’re willing to make you an offer.
If a university extends an informal offer over the phone, be sure to ask how long they can hold the place for you. Typically, it's around 48 hours, but always confirm to avoid losing the opportunity.
3- Resit your A Levels
Didn’t achieve the A-Level grades you hoped for? Consider A-Level resits to improve your results and increase your chances of securing a place in your dream university course next year. A resit gives you the opportunity to boost your grades and achieve the academic goals you’ve been aiming for.
Resitting your A Levels online could be the perfect solution. With our online A-Level courses, you can:
Study at your own pace, on your schedule
Access personal tutor support whenever you need assistance
Remember, even when studying online, you'll still need to book your A-Level exams at an approved exam centre. It’s recommended to secure your exam spot at least 6 months in advance.
Whether you choose classroom-based or online A-Level resits, this option opens doors to new opportunities and helps you achieve your academic and career goals.
So, What Best to Do Now?
Failing your A Levels or not achieving the grades you hoped for can be tough, but it’s just a stepping stone in your journey—not the end. There are plenty of alternative paths to success, including resitting your A Levels, applying through Clearing, taking a gap year, starting a professional qualification, or pursuing an apprenticeship.
No matter which route you choose, there’s a way forward for you. With the right mindset and support, you can still create the future you’ve envisioned.
