If you didn't achieve the grades you wanted in your A levels, you have the option to resit your exams. Here’s how it works:

When Can You Resit A levels?

The main A level exams are held in May/June each year.
Resit exams also take place the following May/June (there is no dedicated resit period in January).

Who Can Resit?

Anyone who wants to improve their grades for university applications, apprenticeships, or job opportunities.
Some universities may accept students with lower grades, but resitting can help secure a better offer.

How to Resit A levels?

You have a few options:

Self-study and register as a private candidate: You can prepare independently and register at an exam centre.

Enrol in a specialist college or online course: Some institutions offer structured resit courses with tutor support.

Cost of Resitting A ;evels

School/College Resits: May be free or have a small admin fee.

Private Candidates: Exam fees range from £100–£300 per subject or more for certain subjects. However, our students can enjoy 12% exclusive discount should they choose to sit their exams with our partner Tutors & Exams. More information can be found at our Exams and Assessment fees here.

Will Universities Accept Resits?

Many universities accept resit students, but some competitive courses (like medicine) may have restrictions.
It’s always best to check with the university before deciding.
